World Pulse: A New Publication for Women around the Globe

For many years the international community has recognized that empowering women is a key to the health of this planet. In February 2006, at the 50th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, UN Deputy-Secretary General Louise Fréchette said that “Studies have repeatedly shown that by giving women equal education and work opportunities and access to a society’s decision-making processes, a country can boost its economic productivity, reduce infant and maternal mortality rates and improve the general population’s nutrition and health.”A new magazine, World Pulse, is dedicated to “listening to and broadcasting the unheard voices and innovative solutions of women worldwide.” The magazine’s founder, Jensine Larsen, was a young journalist in Burma and the Amazon when she started to see the need for a new publication dedicated to presenting global issues through the eyes of women. Touring around the world, she appeared on NPR and Air America, presented keynotes at major corporations, universities and world forums, and wrote articles in international publications.

Larsen is now building an interactive global media company designed to connect women worldwide. Her company produces World Pulse as well as PulseWire, an interactive community newswire where women can speak for themselves to the world and connect to solve global problems. The latter provides a Facebook type utility where women can connect. This hybrid of print media and social networking bodes well for the company’s success.

In 2009 we will post regular features about women’s issues on Global Investment Watch. We look forward to connecting with people around the world and we welcome your comments. Women of the world unite! (Men too of course!)
